Chamartín Meermann Immobilien Bringing Sheraton to Berlin

Exclusive hotel complex with 464 rooms right at Berlin’s main station. Sophisticated architecture right in the heart of Berlin with excellent access to transport. Construction starting in autumn 2010, opening planned for 2012.

Berlin, 8 March 2010 – Chamartín Meermann Immobilien, the largest project developer in Berlin's metropolitan region, has successfully signed up Arabella Hospitality Group, one of the world's famous hotel chains, for its new hotel at Berlin's main station. A fix term lease was signed last week by the involved parties.

The grand opening of the first Sheraton in the capital with a total of 464 rooms, including 47 suites and a president suite, two restaurants, a spa area and a stylish conference centre with a total floor space of 2,000 sqm is planned for 2012. The Sheraton Berlin Hotel will be operated by the joint venture ArabellaStarwood Hotels & Resorts.

“We are extremely proud to have gained a prestigious lessee such as ArabellaStarwood for our hotel. We are committed to creating another landmark complex in the growth region Berlin-Mitte in line with the highest quality standards our group is known for,” explains Ralph Küchenthal, Managing Director of the Chamartín Meermann Group.

The mixed-use property planned by Berlin-based architects Aukett & Heese spans nine floors and consists of two separate but conjoined buildings. Gross floor space totals around 38,500 sqm, including approx. 4,000 sqm high-end retail space for shops, boutiques and top of the range restaurants. The building itself is planned to be connected to the railway station by a roofed skywalk. Berlin’s main station is said to be the largest and most modern crossing stations in Europe, offering direct access to the new Berlin Brandenburg International airport. Thus, air travellers will be able to reach the new Sheraton Hotel in the heart of Berlin in only 18 minutes on the airport rail express. The hotel is in the immediate vicinity of the German Chancellery and the Bundestag parliament building, attracting both tourists and business travellers.

"Berlin is one of the most important congress and conference destinations in Europe. The city offers potential for the further expansion of its position in the tourism domain and is witnessing a continuous growth in demand. This is an exceptional development and we are proud to realize the Sheraton Berlin Hotel together with our partner Starwood Hotels & Resorts”, said Wolfgang M. Neumann, CEO of the Arabella Hospitality Group.

One of the many highlights of the Sheraton Berlin Hotel is the 800 sqm glass dome on its roof, which can be used as an event location. It is complemented by a roof terrace with additional 800 sqm, promising hotel guests a unique view on the capital.

The project is one of numerous currently being developed by the Chamartín Meermann Immobilien Group, which in total represent a project volume of EUR 600 million.
